From 31 January 2024, the time has come. In future, European imports of certain CO2-intensive product groups, such as aluminum, steel or iron, will have to provide mandatory information on the carbon dioxide content of their goods.

The CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) is intended to eliminate the disadvantages that European companies have suffered as a result of complying with strict climate protection requirements in comparison with internationally operating importers.
In addition, the European economy is to be protected from potential carbon leakage with the help of the equalization apparatus.
The German Emissions Trading Authority (DEHSt) is responsible for implementing the new countervailing duty and has set up a separate CBAM section on its website in German language. German customs has now set up direct access to the CBAM portal.
