Plastic waste is a problem worldwide. Many countries have therefore taken measures to combat the increasing pollution.

While African countries such as Rwanda and Kenya have been banning plastic bags for many years, more and more countries are following suit. Recently, Bahrain and Oman banned the import of plastic bags.

Bahrain halts both import and domestic production and trade of single-use plastic bags. The ban applies to thin bags less than 35 microns thick. The regulation has been in effect since September 19, 2022.

Plastic bags will be banned in Oman from next year. The import ban applies to both companies and private individuals.
