1. the Goods Vehicle Movement Service (GVMS)

The Goods Vehicle Movement Service (GVMS) is an IT platform (Register for the goods vehicle movement service – GOV.UK ) operated by the UK government for the purpose of transporting goods into or exporting goods from the UK. Any carrier (transporter, freight forwarder, etc.) entering the UK via a port with goods or transporting export goods via that port must register for this service in order to properly complete the customs declaration and procedure. This also applies to temporary import and re-export with Carnet ATA.

The Carnet ATA number must be entered in the “Declaration Reference” field of the GVMS declaration.

This is only required for vehicles using the freight route (i.e. trucks over 7.5 t).

Attention: The GVMS must also be completed for empty runs.

Vehicles using the passenger route (i.e. cars and vans) do NOT require a GVMS.

  1. Harwich Port

from 01 January 2022, hauliers travelling via the freight terminal will need to apply for customs clearance before arriving at the port. Form C21 allows freight forwarders who do not have access to the UK customs system to make an application.
