Import duties on fruits and vegetables could be imposed in 2024 and 2025. The European Commission published an implementing regulation to this effect on October 10.

The implementing regulation (EU) 2023/2110 lists affected fruits and vegetables. For each product, a specific period has been defined in which import duties are due. It is also possible to see the quantity from which these are payable. This trigger volume corresponds to 125 percent of the average of the respective import product within the last three years.

For example, for artichokes (CN code 07099100), import duties are to be levied in the period from November 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024 at a trigger volume of 12,530 tons.

To avoid import duties, it is therefore worth keeping an eye on the trigger volumes.

The regulation will apply from January 1, 2024 and will expire on June 30, 2025.
