Together with property companies such as Roshn, the Saudi Arabian government is attempting to reduce the shortage of affordable housing that has persisted for many years. Roshn is aiming for the ambitious goal of building over 395,000 residential units by 2030 in the urban centers in and around Riyadh, Jeddah, Mecca and Asir, as well as other areas.
Government-financed megaprojects of this kind are making an important contribution to the current boom in the Saudi Arabian construction industry. Events such as the Expo 2030 and the 2034 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in Saudi Arabia, will ensure additional new building contracts soon. The construction of hotels and resorts to subsidize the national tourism industry is another factor behind the upward trend in the country’s construction industry.
The resources and building materials required for this are often imported to avoid delays in construction wherever possible and to realize the construction projects as planned.
