Sweet corn, truck-mounted cranes, eyeglass frames and long pants originating in the U.S. will be subject to additional duties when imported into the EU starting May 1, 2023. These amount to 0.164 percent.

The WTO had allowed the EU to impose punitive tariffs as compensation for the fact that the US law, “Continued Dumping and Subsidy Offset Act of 2000” is not WTO-compliant. The so-called “Byrd Amendment” regulates the distribution of anti-dumping and countervailing duties levied in the USA to those companies that initiated the anti-dumping proceedings. It thus provides for compensation for continued dumping and subsidy practices. In the corresponding Delegated Regulation (EU) 2023/858, the EU Commission cites a loss of benefit on the part of the EU of $317,877.22.
