Authorized representative for packaging required
German companies that ship packaged goods to Austrian end consumers must appoint an authorized representative in Austria.This authorized representative is responsible for ensuring that the company complies with the obligations for packaging in Austria.
If a German company wishes to assume the preliminary obligation for packaging for its corporate customers in Austria, an authorized representative can also be appointed here. Online marketplaces are also affected: marketplace operators are obliged to expel sellers who do not comply with the packaging legislation from their platform.
The new law has been in effect since January 1, 2023.
