The EU economic sanctions against Russia are being prolonged due to the lack of progress in the Ukraine conflict. However, the EU summit could not agree on new sanctions.
The EU extends its sanctions against Moscow for the illegal occupation of Crimea for a further six months. As a reason, EU Council President Donald Tusk said that the peace process for Ukraine had last seen “zero progress”.
The punitive measures of the EU among other things are aimed at Russian banks and oil and gas companies.
The EU is ready to adopt new measures to support Ukraine, the summit statement said. There is “no justification for Russia’s use of military force.”
