The background to the new rules is the advancing digitalization along with its developments in the field of artificial intelligence and the challenges surrounding cyber security. The growing online market with its offered products should also become more secure.

Obligations for companies

All products whose security has not already been clarified by other EU regulations are affected by the new regulation. For companies, this results in the obligation to carry out a risk analysis for corresponding products. Business organizations are to cooperate with market surveillance authorities and the Commission and share their information. In this way, products that are potentially dangerous should be able to be removed from the EU market more quickly.

The new rules are set out in Regulation (EU) 2023/988.
