From December 31, 2019, the Incoterm FOB (Free On Board) is mandatory for all goods imports to Algeria that come into the country by sea freight. Only the maritime transport is affected by the requirements, but not other means of transport (e.g. air freight).
In addition to the mandatory use of FOB for ocean freight, there are other provisions for household appliances and mobile phones that, according to the Algerian banking association, came into force on September 30, 2019:
- Companies are encouraged to use Algerian sea carriers as far as possible when doing import business.
• Direct payments are no longer possible. A payment term of 9 to 12 months is prescribed instead.
