The European Commission has compiled a list of US products that could be countervailed for higher tariffs on imports into the European Union. The list comes into play if no agreement can be reached in the dispute over the introduction of punitive tariffs on steel and aluminum by the US. The US only extended the derogation for products originating in the European Union until 31 May 2018. This deadline has expired.
Countermeasures could be introduced in two steps: first, duties of 25 per cent could be imposed on imports of certain goods, as long as the United States does not exclude goods from the European Union from safeguard measures. In a second step, as of March 23, 2021, additional duties of up to 10, 25, 35 or 50 percent could be introduced, depending on the respective product.
The list was also deposited with the WTO. This notification is a prerequisite for actually levying countervailing duties.
The list can be found in Annexes I and II to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/724: goods subject to additional customs
