Extra-long trucks could be seen more often on German roads in the future. The transport and environment ministries have agreed to expand the existing route network for long trucks.
This announcement has long been longed for by many trade associations and businesses. Since mid-2021, there has been no news on the corresponding legal ordinance to expand the route network.

Representatives from the business community emphasize the advantages of long trucks. Dirk Binding from the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) points to the CO2 savings, among other things. For the future, he hopes for faster approval of new routes and more planning security for owners of long trucks. The eleventh amending ordinance on exemptions from road traffic regulations for vehicles and vehicle combinations with excess length is limited to December 31, 2023.
