With the Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/1793, the EU lays down official controls that may be required for the import of certain food and feed of non-animal origin from third countries to prevent direct or indirect risks to human health. The information required for this purpose is provided by the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF).

Annex I of the Regulation lists food and feed of non-animal origin that are temporarily subject to increased identity checks and physical checks upon import. Annex II contains all food and feed from certain third countries whose import must fulfil special conditions to prevent contamination by mycotoxins, pesticide residues, microbes, Sudan dyes, rhodamine B or plant toxins. The EU Commission has the task of updating both lists regularly (every 6 months at the latest).
