After a decade of intensive talks, the EU and Indonesia have agreed on a comprehensive economic partnership agreement. The political agreement was announced at a meeting in Brussels between EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.

Opportunities for Trade and Business

The agreement aims to strengthen economic ties and unlock new potential for both parties. Key sectors such as agriculture, the automotive industry and services are expected to benefit from improved market access. Around 300 German companies are already active in Indonesia.

Focus on Sustainability and Raw Material Security

A key objective of the agreement is to enhance resilient supply chains for critical raw materials. At the same time, it seeks to promote sustainable and climate-friendly economic development. Beyond the economic dimension, both sides have expressed their commitment to deeper cooperation on geopolitical and security-related matters.

A Joint Commitment to Openness and Rules

The agreement reflects a shared commitment to transparency, reciprocity and rules-based international cooperation. With this step, the EU and Indonesia are sending a strong signal in support of responsible and open trade. Formal signing of the agreement is expected in the third quarter of 2025.
