The EU Commission announces the imposition of provisional countervailing duties.
In October 2023, the European Commission initiated anti-subsidy proceedings. It is now introducing provisional countervailing duties. These will apply with effect from 5 July 2024.
The product concerned is new battery-powered electric vehicles designed primarily for the transport of nine or fewer persons, including the driver, which are propelled exclusively by one or more electric motors (irrespective of the number of wheels set in motion), including those with a range extender based on an internal combustion engine. Vehicles of categories L6 and L7 in accordance with Regulation (EU) No 168/2013 and motorbikes are excluded. The product is currently classified under the following CN code: ex 8703 80 10 (TARIC code 8703801010). The provisional countervailing duties are valid for four months.
To release the product for free circulation, a security in the amount of the provisional duty is required. The duties may change again during the further investigation and the imposition of definitive countervailing duties. The latest possible date for the imposition of definitive measures is 2 November 2024.
