The Australian government amended the migration regulations and introduced, among other things, a Skills in Demand visa on 7th December 2024.
The Australian government has reorganised the Australian migration framework with the introduction of the Migration Amendment Regulations 2024. One of the fundamental changes associated with the amendment is the introduction of the Skills in Demand visa, which replaces the Subclass 482 Temporary Skills Deficiency visa.
The new visa is designed to provide greater flexibility for employees and employers, attract skilled labour and help strengthen Australia’s global competitiveness. With this visa, a stay of up to 4 years is possible.
To successfully apply for the new visa, among other things, the applicant must, pursue a professional activity that is listed on the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) and have at least 1 year of relevant professional experience in the profession they are practising or in a related field. It may also be necessary, for example, for the applicant to submit proof of English proficiency or complete a skills assessment. Information on the processing time is available online from the Australian government.
