The aim is to work more closely together in times of geopolitical uncertainty and to expand economic opportunities for both sides.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Focus on security and cooperation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The partnership creates a <strong>structured framework for security cooperation<\/strong>. Plans include, amongst other things:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Regular dialogue <\/strong>to coordinate strategic objectives<\/li>\n<li><strong> Joint crisis management and military cooperation <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Closer cooperation on<strong> cyber security, maritime transport and hybrid threats<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>consultations on <strong>new technologies<\/strong> such as artificial intelligence, as well as in the fields of space security, non-proliferation and disarmament<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This move reflects both sides\u2019 response to the growing importance of the <strong>Indo-Pacific region<\/strong> and global security challenges.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Australia: Free Trade Agreement with significant economic potential<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Agreement opens up access for the EU to a <strong>dynamically growing market<\/strong>. According to forecasts, EU exports to Australia could rise by up to 33% over the next 10 years. Sectors expected to benefit particularly include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dairy products<\/strong> (+48%)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Motor vehicles<\/strong> (+52%)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Chemicals<\/strong> (+20%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Further EU investment in Australia made possible<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Over 99% of tariffs on EU exports to Australia are eliminated<\/strong>, enabling businesses to save billions annually. At the same time, <strong>services markets<\/strong> are being opened up, access to <strong>public procurement<\/strong> is being facilitated, and <strong>digital trade rules<\/strong> are being modernised.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Opportunities for SMEs and skilled workers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>EU companies gain <strong>better market access<\/strong> and benefit from a more stable regulatory environment, particularly regarding <strong>critical raw materials<\/strong>. There are also targeted support measures for <strong>small and medium-sized enterprises<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the Agreement facilitates the <strong>labour mobility of skilled workers<\/strong>, for example by simplifying opportunities for engineers and researchers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Agriculture: Growth with Safeguards<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the agricultural sector, <strong>tariffs on numerous EU products are being abolished<\/strong>, including <strong>wine, cheese, fruit and vegetables and their preparations, meat products, chocolate and confectionery<\/strong>. At the same time, the EU protects its own sensitive sectors through:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Limited tariff quotas<\/strong> for imports of certain foodstuffs (e.g. beef, sheep and goat meat, sugar, certain dairy products and rice)<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>bilateral safeguard mechanism in the event of market disruption<\/strong> caused by drastic increases in imports.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Securing critical raw materials and sustainability<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Australia is regarded as a supplier of valuable raw materials, such as <strong>lithium, manganese and aluminium<\/strong>. The Agreement improves access to these and thus enhances <strong>security of supply for the EU<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, the trade pact contains binding provisions on <strong>environmental, climate and labour standards<\/strong>. Trade in <strong>environmentally friendly technologies and goods<\/strong> is specifically promoted.
