These changes, known as the omnibus packages, are intended to <strong>reduce bureaucracy<\/strong> and relieve the burden on <strong>small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) <\/strong>in particular. The amendments concern the <strong>Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD)<\/strong>, the <strong>Taxonomy Regulation <\/strong><strong>(EU Tax-VO)<\/strong>, the <strong>Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD)<\/strong> and the <strong>Carbon Border<\/strong> <strong>Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>An overview of the most important changes<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><strong>New scope of application of the Sustainability Reporting Directive CSRD<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Companies now only have to report if they have at least <strong>1000 employees<\/strong> and an <strong>annual turnover of 50 million euros<\/strong> or a <strong>balance sheet total of 25 million euros<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The reporting obligation is <strong>postponed by two years<\/strong> (until 2028).<\/li>\n<li><strong>80% of companies <\/strong>are exempt from the reporting obligation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Adjustments to the EU taxonomy<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Focus on large companies: <\/strong>SMEs are exempt from most requirements.<\/li>\n<li>The number of reporting forms is <strong>reduced by 70 %<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The most important environmental criteria are simplified.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Reduced due diligence requirements (CSDDD)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Liability risks are reduced: <\/strong>Civil liability is limited.<\/li>\n<li>Companies only have to check their business partners <strong>every five years<\/strong> (instead of annually).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fewer obligations for SMEs<\/strong>: Reduced requirements for passing on information along the supply chain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Changes to the CO2 border adjustment mechanism (CBAM)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Small importers <\/strong>(up to 50 tonnes per year)<strong> will be exempt.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Administrative burden<\/strong> for companies that remain subject to CBAM will be <strong>reduced<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Protection against circumvention <\/strong>and abuse will be strengthened<strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Direct effects of the reform<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With the omnibus packages, the EU is aiming to reduce the <strong>administrative burden by 6.3 billion euros<\/strong>. In addition, <strong>50 billion euros in new investments<\/strong> are to be mobilised. The focus is on strengthening companies, <strong>securing their international competitiveness<\/strong> and promoting sustainable investment at the same time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When will the changes come into force?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The proposals are being discussed in the <strong>European Parliament and the Council<\/strong>.
